Hi all

anyone know how this is achieved and can advise me?

I all the teams seem to have been able to edit the text, and replace it with what they want, but i can't seem to make sense of how to do this.

I've found the string for the loading screens and teh stuff in the datatables, but any edits get changed back to their native "text" in secs.

so'k all. i worked it out !

In keeping with the tradition I seem to have created for myself last year, I am once again a day late in wishing you all a happy new year

So to talk a little about the past year and the coming one! Last year we said we were going to bring you a front-end for the site, in case anyone was wondering about that we decided against it since the forums/discussion of modding are the main focus of the site, we didn't want to distract from this with a front-end (especially since few people would probably use it )

We did last year promise to bring you a dedicated downloads section where you can upload your mods and other things and host them right here on the site. As hopefully you know, we've kept this promise and the section exists for all your uploading needs! I will probably address this in separate post but nobody is really using it and I want to know why!

Our little community here at MtG has remained fairly steady over the past year, it's great to see the same faces still around and also to see a couple of new ones! I would like to increase usage of the site a little bit though and maybe foster some discussion for non-modders so that maybe they may get an interest in it themselves! Perhaps a future ideas forum or something along those lines, what do you think? It's also been great to see you all linking over to here on the SWGEmu site be it with download links or links to threads, it all generates traffic and interest in the site and modding in general!

So that's pretty much it! I'm interested to hear your opinions on getting more users to the site and the download section but other than that I hope everyone had a great Christmas and I hope your year will be awesome!

So, I know SWTOR isn't "officially" launched but I was in on the first day of early access so that pretty much was the launch for me. Those of you who have gotten in so far and started getting to things, how is it playing out for you so far? As far as I'm concerned Christmas has come early this year, although I still need a mouse and headset to complete the experience.

I can pretty much abide by everything I've said in previous SWTOR threads, everything is looking great, although I can only run it with high graphics on my laptop unfortunately.

I can honestly say the only problem I've come across so far is the 1 - 4 hour server queuing but that was to be expected. Other then that BioWare have done an excellent job so far, especially with no prior MMO experience.

Oh I've been filming some shizzle too, not really uploaded any of it but for you Starfox fans:

Hi,

I've been away from SWG for quite some time (Aerospace Engineering is one heck of a college major). I used to be a very frequent modder (perhaps some people remember me). Anyways, with SWG closing, I wanted to get a backup of the most recent files/patches/etc for future reference. However, you can't run the patcher without having an active account (which I lack). I found a way to download patches manually (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts...0#2901905) however that method does not work for hotfix patches nor the ever-important .toc files. However, I was able to download all the primary _client and _shared patches up to patch 58 (that is the most recent, correct?)

....anyways, I was wondering if someone could tell me if I'm missing any patches that aren't listed there and don't follow that naming convention, and also if someone could upload the most recent .toc files?

So I thought it'd be interesting to see who's been playing the recent weekend Beta's of TOR and if so what you though of it, if you're planning on playing live and what class you're going for...

So I played smuggler for the majority of my time during the weekend (majority being several hours a day haha) loved the story and the gameplay and cannot wait to start playing live! I also tried BH for a little bit but didn't really get involved in the story and I played a bit longer on a Sith Warrior character which I thought was pretty awesome too, had a pretty fun story from what I could tell! Thinking Smuggler is going to be my class of choice on live though...

Oh yeah, also going to be playing on a euro server and if the beta server names are kept then it'll probably be Rogue Moon since that's the BETA server I was on...

How about you guys?

Winter Community Update

The chilly wonders of winter have finally arrived and another year has almost come to an end. This year has been relatively slow when it comes to the emulator communities, but we hope that you have all had a great year when it comes to everything else in your day to day lives.

Christmas is approaching rapidly as seen reflected on the site itself. It might be a bit cheesy, but what isn't at Christmas time? The snow falling from your monitor will gradually get heavier as Christmas draws closer!

In addition to your monitor filling up with snow you may notice a change in the structure of the site. We have reorganized the forums into a more compact and efficient manner in an effort to keep the site as clean as possible.

Last but not least, this winter we finally see the launch of SWTOR. As many you have probably already noticed, along with the changes in structure, we are now supporting modifications for SWTOR. The support for the game will most likely remain marginal for quite some time, but when BioWare begin to implement support for addons we will hopefully become more active in modding the game.

We wish you all a wonderful Christmas and hope to see you next year, both in the emulator scene and SWTOR!

Many of you have been wondering how long Early Game Access will last, and we are now happy to announce that depending on when you redeem your Pre-Order Code, you will gain Early Game Access up to five days before the official game launch date.

Hi everyone!

Just an update on how the wiki now works concerning user accounts and editing.

Firstly I have reactivated the ability for registered users to edit the wiki, I have not included a CAPTCHA because I'm hoping that it won't be necessary but I will be monitoring the wiki very closely for spam activity over the next week.

Secondly, I have installed a plugin on the wiki that requires all user registrations to be confirmed by an administrator prior to being granted editing permissions. The process for this is as follows:

Upon creating an account your account will be submitted the the review queue.

Your account will be confirmed by an administrator (if it's not confirmed within 24 hours then PM me)

You will be sent a confirmation email which will include a temporary password.

Upon logging into the wiki for the first time (using the temporary password sent to your email address) you will be asked to change your password, at this stage you may set your password to one of your preference.

You may now edit the wiki!

If you have previously created an account prior to 12/12/11 you do not need to take any action to edit.

Hopefully this will alleviate any spam we've been experiencing on the wiki but as I said I will be keeping an eye out!

I've been wanting to do a mod like this forever now, I was in a team with Xiox too at one point, but things never picked off. Since there still isn't really a HD mod around, I thought, I might as well do now, else I'd never do it, besides, I need the hand exercises (for drawing). I don't know how much time I can invest in the coming months, but I'm eager to get some things done at least.

Alright, first of all, I never did textures before, some minor DDS work back in the day and worked on some minor FX stuff when I was young. The only background I got is digital drawing/sketching, so I'm pretty much a complete newb when it comes to DDS and texturing in general.

If someone could enlighten me more about bump/normal maps, or if you got any other tricks when it comes to DDS, I'd greatly appreciate it. At the moment, the only thing I'm doing is upscaling to 4096 and then redrawing the texture.

This is far from finished, but I thought I'd include some pics, to show what I'm doing at the moment. (Click for bigger image)

Here is the DDS (had to save it in jpeg due to size), just to show how it looks in comparison to ingame:

P.S. I don't quite know yet why the edited texture is darker in game, also, the black lines are too hard atm I think, they won't be in the final I don't think.

Galaxies Mesh Suite for Blender

It's no secret we all want to improve Star Wars Galaxies. While some forums are only interested in getting our old favorite back, here at Mod The Galaxy, we want to make it better than ever!

But how are we going to do that without TOOLS? Tools, I say, are of the ut-most importance for any extensive modding project, and here at Charina's Modding Emporium, it's tools we're making!

I'm getting pretty close to an alpha release of the Galaxies Mesh Suite for blender. What is the Galaxies Mesh Suite, you ask? It's tools for importing, exporting, and modifying all the mesh types in Galaxies, in Blender 2.5.

The aim here is not just to make another conversion system to change the format to something more workable, but rather, to create a suite of tools that aims to be the DEFINITIVE support for the .MGN, .MSH, and .SKT files of Star Wars Galaxies. I intend to allow support for all aspects of these complicated files, directly editable in Blender.

UV Unwrapping
Female mesh in 3D view

The first release may only include an Importer for .MGN files. While that doesn't sound very useful, it will allow us to analyze the files a little better, and make way more advanced tools (like the .MGN exporter). It also will allow us to leverage Blender's relatively decent UV unwrapping abilities to bake all kinds of texture information into Galaxies meshes. I'll leave you with an example of this, in the form of some modified skin textures in-game;

Early test texture, back tatoo.
Recent test texture, back tatoo & very high-res texture.

I'll need a place to start placing tutorials on how to use the suite once it's available. Suggestions are welcome!

Female mesh in 3D view

The first release may only include an Importer for .MGN files. While that doesn't sound very useful, it will allow us to analyze the files a little better, and make way more advanced tools (like the .MGN exporter). It also will allow us to leverage Blender's relatively decent UV unwrapping abilities to bake all kinds of texture information into Galaxies meshes. I'll leave you with an example of this, in the form of some modified skin textures in-game;

Early test texture, back tatoo.
Recent test texture, back tatoo & very high-res texture.

I'll need a place to start placing tutorials on how to use the suite once it's available. Suggestions are welcome!
