MTG Game Art Team Application
#1
Greetings fellow modders and galaxians, I'm Violet and I've been selected to head the first Game Art division of the MTG Development Team.

So what is the MTG Game Art Team and why is their role about to become more important in the SWGEmu Development & Modding Community?

The MTG Game Art Team is a team of self-taught or professionally trained CG Artists that specialize in reverse-engineering or improving the aesthetics of SWGEmu. Whether it's 2D Graphics, Texturing, 3D Modeling with new or current game assets, we are the people who have a hand in it all. Thanks to Sytner and the rest of the MTG Development Team, the Artists can now begin to play a very essential role in rebuilding Star Wars Galaxies and making it better than what it used to be.

For more information on what the team is and the kind of work we do, visit this thread.

This application has been prepared by me and verified by the higher staff. For those interested in joining the Game Art Team, first you WILL require Discord as a means of communicating effectively with the team. If you are not prepared to use Discord, then we cannot accept you, simple as that. No you do not need a microphone, just the ability to be active within the team and motivated to do the kind of work we are trained to do.

SECONDLY we will require a 2D or 3D Digital Art Portfolio (or both) on application. For those who don't know what a Digital Art Portfolio is, it's an online gallery that showcases your personal and professional projects you have completed in the past or could be currently working on.

A great way to start your first portfolio is to use digital portfolio galleries such as ArtStation as it's used by a huge majority of the CG Artists in the world and you can choose what to hide or display to viewers. There is a common rule that you should adapt your portfolio to whatever you think the "employer" would most like to see. In this case, you must adapt your portfolio to MTG's Art Team requirements. Depending on the role you would like to fill in the Art Team, include whatever you feel is necessary in your portfolio submission. NOTE: If you are able to work two or more roles in the Art Team, we are much more likely to accept you out of experience, we measure it on how useful you can be.

Your portfolio should require aesthetical evidence for any of the following:
  • 2D Texture Maps - Albedo (Diffuse/Color), Normal, and Specularity Mapping.
  • 2D Concept Art - Characters, Creatures, Environment, Weapons and other items.
  • 3D Hard-Surface Meshes - Environments, Armor, Weapons, any assets which have a hard surface and are not human or organic in nature.
  • 3D Organic Meshes - Characters, Creatures, Environment (organic terrain or decorations such as mushrooms, grass, tree's etc.)
  • 3D Renders - Marmoset Toolbag, Unreal Engine 4, Unity, SIE, any evidence of your work finished and working in an game with proper lighting.
  • Any other relevant art work you think would be interesting for us to see.
THIRDLY though not directly required is any experience using SIE. This will definitely push your chances of getting accepted to the team. Whether it's knowing how to add new assets to SWGEmu's engine, modify current assets, or you are experienced with terrains and world building? We want to hear from you!

So, still think you've got what it takes to be a member of the MTG Game Art Team?

Fill in the required fields and list your experience as fluently and passionately as you can. Be honest, we are not going to refuse you for lack of experience in a single area. As Artists we are able to adapt our talents where we are best suited, and the MTG Art Team will run a similar but much tighter ship.

As a final note, I would like to reassure applicants not to feel intimidated by the heavy standards set in the application. We are a very supportive and generous team and as a leader I understand that Art is not an easy industry to progress in. We are forever learning and we are all different, but what matters is how we choose to work together and collab our passions and talents in order to make something great. We are prepared to offer experience in as many ways as possible, so don't be alarmed if you don't have any experience in a specific area, we are here for you and there's no shame in learning on the job.
