Space Reticle Color
#1
        Morning.

I'm currently playing on Legends NGE server.  I have the project distributed ILM mod which is packaged as a series of TREs in the game folder.  Most of the ILM is inactive in my settings, except the UI mod for ground and space which I kinda dig.  One thing about the space UI bugs and I'm trying to mod it.  The color and opacity of the reticle lead indicator is bad.  Its been colored green, which is bad, and the opacity and color at distance (when the targeted ship is outside official gun range) has been dialed down and/or recolored to be almost invisible.

The problem is that green is bad and gets lost in nebula colors, there is plenty of info to be gathered from the lead indicator - even at a distance, and guns will shoot an approximate 50m farther than the official 500m.  I'd like to pick a different color for the lead indicator, and dial up the opacity at a distance.

Attached is a screenie.  One close enough to show the big green "X", and one at a distance to show the lack of visibility.  The "X" is there... I've seen it on different background, sorta greyed out, but its nearly inviso under normal conditions.

Digging around the ILM.tre in TRE Explorer, I did find find the files:

ui_hud_space.inc
ui_hud_space_ship_reticle.inc

which seemed to call out the the opacity values and colors of the 'leadIndicator' (in hex color).  Not knowing how to edit an .inc file, I just tried a text edit and dropped both edited files in a new ui folder... but no dice.  It was worth a try.

If anyone can steer me in the right direction to edit the colors and opacity as described, I would appreciate it.  Cheers.

I was thinking there would be a palette attached to the lead indicator for the targeting reticle, but I haven't found it, and have little experience with UI mods or how they work. The hex color I did see in the files i noted appeared to be the same color green, but is likely unrelated.

Circle the part you are talking about.

The green "lead indicator" as circled.  It hovers out in front of the ship you have targeted, telling you where to lead your shot.  In the vanilla version of the UI, it's smaller and red, and fades to a lighter red when you are out of range, but is still visible.  Seeing it at longer range lets you know which direction the ship is headed, which way its guns are pointed.

In the ILM mod, the green is harder to see and the opacity and color at range makes it nearly invisible.  I really like the UI mod, but want to learn how to change that color and opacity.

Thank you.  You had the right file, but in there I found, leadIndicator and a "leadIndicator out of range"... Changed hex colors and opacities.  I'll post results. Weird, thats one of the OG files I looked at, but I guess i hadnt nailed fown the name as leadIndicator, yet... or this will fail to work just as mch as the last time.
Code:
<Image
                AbsorbsInput='false'
                BackgroundColor='#FFFFFF'
                BackgroundOpacity='1.00'
                Color='#FF8C3A'
                Location='201,360'
                Name='targetLeadIndicator'
                OpacityRelativeMin='1.00'
                PackLocation='cfc,cfc'
                PackSize='p,p'
                RStyleDefault='/Styles.space.reticles.k.rs_default'
                ScrollExtent='46,44'
                Size='46,44'
                SourceRect='0,0,1024,1024'
                Visible='false'
            />
            <Image
                AbsorbsInput='false'
                BackgroundColor='#FFFFFF'
                BackgroundOpacity='0.60'
                Color='#FF8C3A'
                Location='201,360'
                Name='targetLeadIndicatorOutOfRange'
                OpacityRelativeMin='1.00'
                PackLocation='cfc,cfc'
                PackSize='p,p'
                RStyleDefault='/Styles.space.reticles.k.rs_default'
                ScrollExtent='46,44'
                Size='46,44'
                SourceRect='0,0,1024,1024'

There it is.  This is a screenie at distance.  I set the opacity high so i could see it clearly, but it does pop when i get in legit gun range.  The target ship is a slow, static freighter so the lead indicator isn't offset much, but a fighter or any faster ship will now let me know which way it's headed, and a good guess on which way guns are pointed.

I did change the reticleImage you suggested, but it didn't change any colors that I could see.  The winning result was both colors changed, or perhaps I just didn't do it right the first time.  It's not broken, so I'm not going to fix it.  Cheers, and thanks again.

A final word.  I believe the "reticleImage" is the X at the center of the spaceship HUD, the circle that contains the ship speed and cap energy meters.  I didn't notice the color change before, but it used to be green as well and has now changed with the reticleImage edit I left in place.  The leadIndicator, is the "lead indicator". The X that hovers out in front of a targeted ship.  With a couple eidts, it's now a semi-opaque red beyond range and a nice bright yellow when it's time for guns blazing.  Cheers.
