.trn file purpose/descriptions.

Question
Hey folks, I apologize for my absence of the last few months. I've been spending a lot of my free time studying for a GMAT exam. I've completed a decent amount more texture modifications that I would like to share as well, and will be updating my personal modding site later this week for download.

I had a few questions about the .trn files and what they contain - primarily the development type ones (or so I assume).

09.trn
10.trn
11.trn
character_farm.trn
cinco_city_test_m5.trn
endor_asommers.trn
otoh_gunga.trn

I have a good idea what all the other .trn files are like and are for. However these ones elude me.

09 is the initial terrain test that is a proof of concept for how the procedural terrain generation handles the heightmap, environments, and other affectors that change what the terrain looks like and is decorated with depending on where you are.

10 is not really a terrain more than it was a very rudimentary way to get basic objects to be visible in the engine to test their appearance.  In the case as it stands it used a variation of each base species model and inserted them into the terrain procedurally as flora.

11 I can't remember, I havent looked at it in ages.

cinco_city_test_m5  i am fairly sure was an early stage test for corellia.

endor_asommers is the endor terrain, unfinished.  (probably a copy of it that was spawned off while it was being designed and for whatever reason they left it in the tre)

otoh_gunga was intended to be used to create the underwater gungan city of the same name.    Anyone that's played SWG for more than 5 minutes knows how clunky player interaction with water is.   It was chopped from the development curve and never iterated on again.   Although some other parts that were intended for use with this still remain in the tre archive.  Textures, shaders etc.

Hey thanks for your help levarrishawk, I appreciate the quick attention this thread received!

I remember reading somewhere there is a 3km x 3km .trn that was intended to be used a Kessel. Is that true? I have not been able to find this .trn to determine whether or not this was true.

I also read some where in the spider-web of forums and what have you that the SWG Beta had some different planets in development like Mandalore?

These may just be snippets I picked up the wrong way, but any amount of illumination on them would be awesome as well.

Mandalore definitely didn't exist in SWG to my knowledge, the one that's floating around is an existing planet with a new, different World Snapshot file that was made by Bats.

The full list, including the beta .trn's is this (Note: Some of these have incompatible file versions with the PreCU client, therefor aren't really usable out of the box):

Thanks for the list Timbab, that helps a lot to see the differences.

I've seen the thread on here with Bats Mandalore planet, I saw something else on another site. I think it was the lucasforums, and some fella there was saying "for those of you who played the SWG beta, planet Mandalore" etc etc. He had a few pictures as well, but the actual thread I can't seem to find anymore.

Haha I know this sounds like a big foot sighting.

Thanks for all your helps guys I always appreciate the knowledge you all share.

youre probly thinking of mustafar, not mandalore. i have completely finished bats mandalore. it had a lot of unfinished business. ive also started on a version of korriban as well. of course, you cant create new trn files, so the trick is to try and make an old one nearly unrecognizable.

That could be Arioch, that sounds more reasonable. I saw the thread quite a few months ago and again I wasn't able to find it again. (Perpetuating the Lochness Monster/Big Foot sightings of SWG mods).

That sounds really neat! Would you happen to have any screens of the finished Mandalore? What I saw on Bats original post was pretty impressive and I recall him mentioning that he's working on Geonosis. And were you able to incorporate resource spawns and other features to the planet?

There is also a member here who has a small private server, I think around 20-30 people, and I recall seeing a reddit post stating his server has three custom planets including Korriban. His server's website is built on a weebly domain I believe. It would be interesting to know what .trn files people choose when they design new planets.

everything functions correctly on the planet, i even have planet specific housing set up. i havent shared my version of korriban with anyone, so that is completely seperate from mine. i have some screens but my comp is down for now due to the city sewer flooded our basement or id show them to you. ill try to remember once everythings back to normal.

Way cool Arioch, I'm very interested in seeing your work as soon as your computer is back in commission. I'm also sorry to hear about you basement flooding, I hate it when that stuff happens - always seems like there's something.

I have another question for you or anyone who would like to answer. When you create a new planet with an existing .trn file will that planet have the same exact textures ground, sky, etc... as it's donor planet? Is it possible to have a planet based of say Tatooine with different textures while not effecting Tatooine itself?

yes, you cant create a new trn at this point, so pick one, copy and rename it. and yes you can change textures without changing the original.
